Where does Nu-Kitchen deliver?

Answer:

Our service is currently available for residents in Manhattan and in parts of Brooklyn & Queens, southern Westchester and Nassau Counties. Enter your email and zip code to the right on this page and we’ll tell you right away if you’re in our area. I live in a brownstone or walk-up apartment building. How will deliveries be made if I have no doorman?

Answer:

Since we make our deliveries in the wee hours of the morning, we don't want to wake you. Therefore, if you're not living in a 24-hour doorman building, you can send us a duplicate key for the exterior door to your building. Simply mail us your key before you would like to begin your service. (For expedited service, please send us your key via UPS (Bill to Account #10EY53) , Address: 54-20 50th Street, Maspeth, NY 11378

Our driver will drop off your day's worth of food right in front of your door, so it will be there when you wake up. If your building is a walk up and your apartment is higher than five floors, an additional delivery fee may be applied.

Which days can I get deliveries?

Answer:

We offer daily deliveries Monday through Friday. However, if you elect to receive food for Saturday or Sunday, we will include it with Friday’s deliveries.

Customers with specific health, fitness or weight management objectives are encouraged to eat with Nu-Kitchen at least 5 days per week.

How do I return my empty soft-cooler bags to Nu-Kitchen?

Answer:

Simply leave your empty cooler bag just outside your door the evening before your next delivery and we will collect it. Cooler bags are the property of Nu-Kitchen and must be left for pick-up after use.

If you will be away for an extended period of time, please contact our Customer Care Center by emailing us at info@nu-kitchen.com or calling 212-582-1144 to schedule a pickup. A $30 bag fee will be charged for any bags not returned to Nu-Kitchen

Can I cancel a full day's delivery, part of a delivery or suspend my service for a period of time?

Answer:

Nu-Kitchen offers total flexibility in terms of how you can manage your order. If you're traveling or dining out, you may cancel an entire day's delivery, just certain meals within a delivery, or suspend your deliveries for a period of time.

To cancel a delivery or just certain meals within a delivery, login and go to my menu. Select the day(s) or meal(s) you wish to cancel and click save.

Cancellations are accepted up until 8 a.m. the day before the delivery date. Your schedule is extended to account for cancelled deliveries.

To suspend your service for a period of time, call Customer Care at 212-582-1144.

How does the credit system work in relation to delivery cancellations?

Answer:

Login and click "details" to the right of the "my menu" page to see your credits.

Cancelling an entire day of service (breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks) equates to 1.0 credit, and your schedule is automatically pushed out by one day. Individual meals and snacks have a partial credit value (0.2 for each breakfast, lunch or dinner and 0.1 for each snack). Once you accumulate 1.0 credit from individual meal and snack cancellations, the system adds an additional full day to your order.

Any partial credits balance at the conclusion of your order will be applied to your next order.

Unused credits are not transferable and cannot be refunded.

What if I go out for a meal but do not cancel the meal for that day?

Answer:

If, for whatever reason, you're unable to eat a Nu-Kitchen meal on the day that it's delivered, that's OK! Nu-Kitchen meals are prepared daily so they maintain their freshness for 3 or 4 days.

Weight Loss and Nu-Kitchen

What is Nu-Kitchen's philosophy for weight loss and weight management?

Answer:

The single most important factor in weight loss and weight management is eating the right number of calories. Weight loss happens when the number of calories you consume is less than the amount of energy you expend. Maintaining your current weight happens when calorie intake is in balance with energy expended.

Nu-Kitchen tailors portion sizes to your specific needs, while preparing whole foods that naturally help you feel more satisfied after eating. If you are seeking to manage your weight, we encourage you to sign up to receive Nu-Kitchen at least 5 days per week. The longer you stay with us, the better your results can be. Not only can we help you lose weight but you'll experience greater energy and vitality.

If I'm trying to lose weight, how long will it take to see a difference?

Answer:

Weight loss will differ from one individual to the next. Ideally you'll lose about 1-3 pounds a week. Customers that have weight loss questions can consult their health care professional or a Nu-Kitchen nutrition manager to individualize their Nu-Kitchen plan.

What should I be drinking?

Answer:

We recommend that you stick to no or low calorie beverages such as water, seltzer or tea. Liquid calories from soda, sports drinks, smoothies and juice can derail a weight loss plan since all are high in sugar and calories. Plus, calories from beverages don't keep you feeling full like solid food does. Research has shown that you are more likely to reduce your daily calorie intake after eating a 200 calorie snack but not as likely after drinking 200 liquid calories [from soda].

How does alcohol consumption affect my weight and health?

Answer:

For most adults, moderate alcohol consumption can fit into a healthy diet. If weight loss is your goal, you will need to budget your calories from alcohol into your daily caloric intake. Stick to low calorie choices like dry wine and be aware that calories from mixes add up — a few drinks a night can quickly add up to over 1,000 calories over the course of a week.

If you do decide to drink, make sure you include folate rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, beans and whole grains. Even moderate alcohol intake can deplete your body of folate, a B vitamin that is especially important for reducing breast cancer and heart disease risk.

The Health Benefits of Nu-Kitchen

How can Nu-Kitchen benefit my health?

Answer:

The optimal nutrition you'll enjoy with Nu-Kitchen is a function of the wide range of whole foods that we use everyday. Getting your nutrients from a wide variety of whole foods is extremely important. More research shows that it's not just nutrients themselves, but the foods that contain them as well and it is this combination that makes the difference in human health.

How does Nu-Kitchen's nutritional approach compare to other diets?

Answer:

Our belief about nutrition is based on a combination of the soundest scientific evidence available and a good dose of common sense.

Here's some major differences between Nu-Kitchen and many of the typical diets you might read about:

  • We believe eating well is a long-term proposition with long term benefits, whereas most "diets" are about helping you lose weight as quickly as possible with little thought given as to the health consequences of such an approach, or even if it's possible to keep the weight off once the "diet" is over.
  • We believe that eating well can contribute to a healthy weight, but that eating well also has many other profound benefits, where most "diets" only think about food in terms of losing or gaining weight.
  • We don't believe in the phrase "never eat....", because it just makes us obess about eating what we can't have, whereas most "diets" are based on the "never eat" idea.

If I'm pregnant or a new mother, is Nu-Kitchen right for me?

Answer:

Nu-Kitchen is an excellent way to help new and expectant mothers eat well and manage weight after giving birth. We help new mothers understand daily caloric requirements, manage certain food restrictions, provide high quality food, and save precious time. Since we provide all of a new mom's daily meals, more time can be devoted to other essential activities during this special time.

You'll have access to one of our registered dieticians with an expertise in pre- and post-natal nutrition to help you with any specific questions you might have along the way.

Can I eat Nu-Kitchen if I have diabetes?

Answer:

Nu-Kitchen is an excellent option for people living with diabetes. Nu-Kitchen meals are prepared only with whole grains, thereby avoiding the refined and processed foods and excess sugar that is unhealthy generally, but especially so for diabetics. Nu-Kitchen's tailored portion sizes help people achieve the right caloric intake, which is an essential component to healthy weight management.

If you have diabetes, you should consult your physician to see if Nu-Kitchen is right for you.

What's the benefit of eating five or more times a day?

Answer:

Nu-Kitchen is designed to meet your daily calorie needs spaced evenly throughout the day by providing you with three meals and two snacks in our signature delivery. By eating more frequently throughout the day, you help to maintain a consistent blood sugar and energy level and avoid the binging that often comes after long periods without eating.

What's the difference between refined carbohydrates and whole grains?

Answer:

Nu-Kitchen's focus is on whole grains like oats, brown rice and whole wheat flour to provide you with fiber, B vitamins and antioxidants. The fiber in whole grains also helps you feel full after eating. Refined carbohydrates such as bleached flour are stripped of their bran and germ layers during processing, so they are low in fiber and antioxidants.

Why is fat important to include in my diet?

Answer:

Fat is a necessary component of a healthy diet. Some fats are essential, meaning that the body cannot manufacture them and they must be consumed from food in order to prevent a deficiency. The omega-3 fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids that are common in cold water fish such as salmon, are one example of essential fatty acids. Fat is also necessary to utilize vitamins A, E, D and K, along with the carotenoids, lycopene and beta carotene. Fat takes longer to digest than carbohydrates or protein, helping us to feel satisfied after eating. Some research has shown that eating a very low fat, high carbohydrate diet may actually increase your risk for heart disease by raising triglyceride levels and decreasing levels of the heart healthy HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol or "good" cholesterol, which is protective against heart disease. This effect may be partially due to a deficient intake of essential fatty acids.

The key is balance. Nu-Kitchen foods provide you with monounsaturated fats from foods like olive oil, avocados and nuts as well as polyunsaturated fat from fish and soy products. Nu-Kitchen generally minimizes the amount of saturated fat for the day to less than 10% and avoids using products made with trans-fat. Saturated and trans-fat increase LDL (low density) cholesterol, a risk factor for heart disease.

Misc.

How much does it cost to eat with Nu-Kitchen?

Answer:

Eating with Nu-Kitchen costs about $7 to $8 per item not including delivery. When you consider the quality, choice, time savings and health benefits you get with Nu-Kitchen, we think you'll find Nu-Kitchen to be a tremendous value.

How will I be billed?

Answer:
